I mean… who doesn’t?!
So, let’s talk about how to completely crush it when the pressure is on!!
I remember getting up to bat when runners were in scoring position. My opportunity to help my team score runs. Win games.
I remember thinking…
“What if I don’t get the hit?”
“I hope I get a hit.”
“This pitcher is really good. I don’t know if I’ll be able to hit that inside pitch.”
“I need to get this hit right now.”
I was defeated before I even had the opportunity to succeed! I set myself up for failure.
Self doubt, negativity, pressure, nerves, overthinking… it all started to flood my head.
You can have the greatest mechanics and skills in the whole world, but if your mindset isn’t strong and confident, you’re ka-put.
It all starts with your mind.
Your self talk.
What you say to yourself matters. What you say and think is what you are going to believe. This is the stuff that makes you confident in that big pressure moment.
I want you to just write down what thoughts and feelings come up for you when the pressure is on.
Then, I want you to write down what you want to tell yourself instead in these big pressure moments.
Here’s how my thinking changed…
“I can hit anything this girl throws me.”
“I am going to get a hit.”
“Keep it simple.”
“Hitting is easy.”
“I GET to get a hit.”
“I can freakin’ do this!”
Our thoughts dictate how we feel. Meaning our thoughts create our confidence.
